A few notes on the Landmark Christian game
For those of you who didn't make the trip to Cincinnati to see the Landmark Christian game, not much can really be said. Leading 49-0 at halftime, the Crusader staff made arrangements with the officials and the opposing team coaches to allow the clock to run without stopping during the second half, and the quarters were reduced from the regular 12 minutes down to 10. There is no official "mercy rule" to my knowledge in high school football, but through mutual agreement, this compromise allowed both teams to finish the game and helped to reduce the chance of serious injuries resulting from frustration or exhaustion from a drawn-out second half. From my personal standpoint, this gesture was another clear example of the core character of this football program. We desire to play hard-hitting, varsity level football, but have no intention to exploit our opponents in the process. And, due to the JV game that was played in Newark earlier that same day (in which the Crusaders were crushed 62-0), the coaches had very few substitutions that they could use to prevent the score from continuing to increase. The final score is not important here. What is important is that we pray for our opponent as they build their program so that they can continue to offer a Varsity level football program to young men in their area. As any Crusader fan knows, it is always difficult to be totally outmanned on the football field. We, as a football family, are as passionate as they come on Friday Nights. The good news is...the photographer had more of an opportunity to get shots of the Crusader Varsity Cheerleaders during the second half of the game. They now have their own featured gallery. I hope you enjoy it! This week's game will present a new challenge, however. Frontier stuck it to us last year in our final game on the banks of the Ohio River. What do you say we treat them to a hard hitting night of Central Ohio Football this week?
